I Am Ellison's New Invisible Man

As a black queer man with cerebral palsy, my entire life is filled with people telling me that I shouldn't aspire to greatness, but spite is the greatest motivator. As such I am the only disabled person in my family with an advanced degree, and the most accomplished. But getting here almost killed me.

I Grew Up in a Cult & I Survived

I am a successful attorney and adjunct faculty member, but people are always very surprised to learn that I grew up in a cult in California.

Mastering More: Defying Doubts, Chasing Dreams, and Earning My Master's!

In this tale, a leader is taken aback when I decide to return to college for my Master's Degree. The shock prompted the leader to reach out to my manager, curious about the underlying motivations behind my pursuits.

Redefining Normal: Embracing Mental Health in College

Breaking the silence on serious mental health challenges in college, my story aims to shatter the misconception that these struggles are 'normal.' Let's open up the conversation and seek the help we deserve, together.

Seeking that First Job: My Experience as a White Male

My first attempt to get a job after college was unsuccessful. For complex reasons, the position went to a woman. Initially it disappointed me but now, I appreciate the outcome.

The Intersection of Bipolar and Substance Abuse

This discussion will focus on the challenges of living with bipolar. Many people suffer or have their lives impacted by others with mental health issues and/or substance abuse, and I believe it is important to find understanding of what it is like to live with it or what it may look like in others.

Please note that not every Storyteller will be available for the entirety of the session

Stags Share Stories is an event for Fairfield University students, faculty, and staff to connect with each other to promote a culture of understanding, empathy, and appreciation of our diverse community, where deep and challenging conversations are welcomed, respected, and valued. Stags Share Stories is inspired by our prior Human Library events (held annually from 2016-2021) and our shared values as a Jesuit Catholic institution which includes a commitment to encounter and dialogue as well as journeying together into a hope-filled future.

Stags Share Stories is organized by the DiMenna-Nyselius Library and Office of Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs with committee representation from: Campus Ministry, Center for Social Impact; Counseling & Psychological Services, Murphy Center for Ignatian Spirituality, Office of Student Engagement, Residence Life, and faculty from Dolan School of Business and College of Arts & Sciences.
