SUMMARY:Faculty & Staff Book Club: I\, Human
DESCRIPTION:For the 2025-2026 academic year\, Provost Christine Siegel has
invited all of us at the university to engage in a shared conversation and
reflection on the topic of what it means to be authentically human in a
world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence (AI). In response to
her challenge to us to foster curiosity\, critical thinking\, and a deeper
understanding of how we can thrive in our rapidly changing world\, the
Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and the DiMenna-Nyselius Library are
 pleased to announce a two-part Book Talk on I\, Human: AI\, automation\,
and the quest to reclaim what makes us unique\, by Tomas
Chamorro-Premuzic\, one of the three books that comprise this year’s
Common Read Assignment for the Class of 2029. The discussions will take
 place on Wednesday\, September 24\, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm\, and on Monday\,
October 20\, from 11 am to noon. We invite all faculty and staff to join us
for what’s certain to be a fascinating set of conversations. This second
discussion\, on Oct. 20th\, will cover Chapters 5-8. Both sessions will
take place on campus with a Zoom link provided for individuals who wish to
join remotely. \n\nThe Library and CAE will provide coffee\, tea\, and
snacks to fuel the discussion\, and we welcome people with all views on AI
to come and share your perspectives. The book is available to borrow in
print\, digital\, and audio formats at the Library (access here)\, as well
as being available for purchase at the Stag Spirit Shop in the BCC. We look
 forward to seeing you there!
